The four weekly rates for 2026/27

Here are the current weekly amounts. These are the figures Social Security Scotland pays for the 2026/27 financial year.

Notice how much wider the gap is on the daily living component than on mobility. The jump from standard to enhanced daily living is nearly 38 pounds a week, while on mobility the standard rate is comparatively modest. That matters when you look at your form: getting from 8 to 11 points up to 12 points on daily living is worth a great deal in cash terms, so it is worth describing the activities you struggle with in full detail.

ADP is not means tested and is tax free. Your earnings, savings and other income do not affect the amount. What you receive depends only on how your conditions affect the daily living and mobility activities, so the four rates above are the amounts in play whatever your financial situation.

How the points decide your rate

Each component is scored out of its own set of activities. Daily living covers 10 activities such as preparing food, washing, dressing, communicating and managing money. Mobility covers 2 activities, planning and following a journey and moving around. Each activity has descriptors that carry points, and the totals within each component decide your rate.

Points to rate, per component

0 to 7 points: no award for that component.
8 to 11 points: standard rate standard
12 or more points: enhanced rate enhanced

Two things about this are easy to miss. First, the thresholds are the same on both components, 8 to 11 for standard and 12 or more for enhanced, even though the cash amounts are very different. Second, your points can come from any combination of activities. You do not need to score highly on a single activity. Several activities where you each score a few points can add up to an enhanced award. These thresholds are set in The Disability Assistance for Working Age People (Scotland) Regulations 2022.

Reliability changes your points. Under regulation 7 an activity only counts as something you can do if you can do it safely, to an acceptable standard, repeatedly and in a reasonable time period. If you cannot do it that way on most days, you are treated as unable to do it, which can move you up a descriptor and up a rate. A form that only describes your best days can leave you on a lower rate than your needs justify.

How the components combine

Because the two components are independent, an award is really a pairing. Below are some common combinations for 2026/27 to show how the weekly total is built.

The top combination, enhanced on both components, is the maximum award. It is worth being clear that a mixed award is completely normal. It is very common to be placed on enhanced daily living but standard mobility, or the other way round, because the activities behind each component measure different things. Someone with a mental health condition may score heavily on daily living activities such as engaging with others or managing money while scoring less on physically moving around, and vice versa.

What ADP is worth a year

Turning a weekly rate into an annual figure gives a sense of scale. A full award, enhanced on both components, comes to well over 10,000 pounds across a year once you multiply the weekly total up. When we talk about the value of an award in round terms we use a conservative figure of 10,000 pounds a year, which sits comfortably under what the maximum actually produces.

ADP is paid every four weeks. The rates above are weekly for comparison, but the money arrives as a single payment every four weeks, so each payment is four weeks of your weekly total added together. Payments are usually made into your bank account, and your award letter confirms the exact amount and dates.

Because ADP is not means tested and does not count as taxable income, the full amount is yours to keep. It can also act as a gateway. Being awarded ADP can passport you to other help such as extra amounts in Universal Credit, and where you care for someone their award can open the door to Carer Support Payment, the Scottish payment for carers. How the rates go up each year

Your rate can change at review

Awards run on a rolling basis with no fixed end date, and most are reviewed at some point to check you are still on the right rate. Light-touch reviews are generally spaced between two and ten years apart, longer where your needs are unlikely to change, and some awards run on an ongoing basis without a scheduled review. It is not repayable, so questioning a cut to your rate does not put a hole in your income while it is looked at again.
