Add up your daily living points and your mobility points separately. You need 8 points for the standard rate and 12 for the enhanced rate in each part. If a score looks too low, compare it against how you actually manage that activity safely, repeatedly and in a reasonable time. Those reliability criteria are where many awards fall short, and they are often the strongest grounds for a challenge. In Scotland most determinations are made on paper, so your form is your case.
A re-determination is the first step in challenging an ADP determination. You ask Social Security Scotland to look at your application again. It is free and you do not need a solicitor. You can send extra evidence and explain where you believe the determination was wrong. Social Security Scotland must decide within 56 days. If the re-determination does not change the determination, you can appeal to the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Social Security Chamber), where a large share of ADP determinations are overturned.
